The media-accorded world’s largest hospital, The First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University in central of China Henan province, sees a burst of patients on February 16, 2016. The congestion in the hospital is even comparable to the terrifying Spring Festival travel rush in the past Chinese New Year holidays.
Many factors contributed to the burst of patients at the end of Spring Festival. Traditionally, Chinese people would choose not to see a doctor during the Spring Festival to avoid bringing in bad luck or just due to a lack of time. So they would postpone their appointments with doctors to the end of the holidays. Additionally, the migrant workers who came home during the New Year would bring their parents for medical treatment. Besides, there are more senior patients who would schedule re-examinations after the holidays.
